Madhya Pradesh election: Re-polling ordered for Ater assembly seat

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed re-polling at a booth in Madhya Pradesh’s Ater assembly constituency, situated in Bhind district, as per an official statement. Scheduled for November 21, voting at booth number 3, within polling centre number 71 at Kishupura, will take place from 7 am to 6 pm, with indelible ink to be applied to voters’ middle fingers. The re-polling order has been communicated to the district returning officer. The decision stems from a breach of secrecy, with individuals recording videos of the voting process at the Kishupura booth on November 17.

A district official highlighted the necessity for re-polling due to this violation. The electoral competition in Ater involves the incumbent MLA and BJP representative, Arvind Singh Bhadauria, facing off against the Congress’s Hemant Katare. Notably, all 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh underwent polling on November 17 in a single phase, achieving a 77.15% voter turnout, according to the Election Commission. The culmination of this electoral process will be on December 3 when the votes will be counted.
