Karnataka BJP says that Congress planning to remove Savarkar’s image from Assembly

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asserted that during the next winter session of the state assembly, the Congress government in Karnataka was preparing to remove the image of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar from the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.

R Ashok, the leader of the opposition, stated, ‘Savarkar was a freedom fighter. If they attempt to remove his portrait, we will stage massive protests.’

The idea to take Savarkar’s image down from Suvarna Soudha has not been verified or refuted by Speaker UT Khader. He shot down the rumours, saying that such a topic was not going to be covered in the upcoming assembly meeting.

‘Just talking based on speculations or presumptions doesn’t send a good message. We are inclusive. We are positive and we will work for the betterment and welfare of Karnataka, especially the downtrodden. The ruling party and the Opposition should work together. There should be a positive atmosphere in the assembly, and that duty I will do in any matter,’ he said.

The Congress objected to the BJP’s installation of Savarkar’s image within the assembly last year. From December 4 to 15, the Legislative Assembly’s winter session will take place at the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi. Ten days will be spent in session for the Assembly and Legislative Council, with the exception of December 9 and 10, which are weekends.
