Speaking at a business gathering on Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee named former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly the state’s brand ambassador.
Top industrialists were in attendance as Mamata Banerjee discussed a number of initiatives the state planned to do to strengthen its economy. These included boosting the production of renewable energy, modernising logistics, and tripling exports.
She blasted the BJP-led Union government, saying, ‘I am sorry to say that the state is not getting any financial support from the Centre. We are not getting our share of GST and wages under MGNREGA scheme have been stopped.’
‘But I am in favour of peace and happiness. Some people ask me which ‘ism’ do I follow. I tell them that I am neither in favour of Rightism nor Leftism. I believe in humanism,’ she said.
Notably, Mukesh Ambani, the chairperson of Reliance Industries, declared that he will invest Rs 20,000 crore in West Bengal over the following three years. Retail growth, bioenergy, and digital solutions will be the main areas of focus for this investment.
Speaking at the function, Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji praised the state’s initiatives to grow the IT sector.
Sanjeev Goenka of the Rama Prasad Goenka Group addressed the assembly, stating that his company has made investments of Rs 25,000 crore in the state in recent years because ‘decision making has been quick and efficient’ and that ‘go slows, strikes and unrest are of the past… the CM wants business.’
