Second lifeline pipe installed in Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi

In a significant development providing relief to the 41 laborers stranded in the collapsed under-construction tunnel in Silkyara, Uttarakhand, engineers successfully inserted a six-inch lifeline pipe through the debris on Monday. This larger pipe will facilitate the delivery of a more substantial supply of food items, fruits, eggs, and beverages to the trapped workers, who have been stuck for the past nine days. Previously, a four-inch tube was utilized to provide oxygen, medicines, and dry fruits to sustain the workers within the tunnel. Officials suggest that the newly inserted larger pipe may also offer live visuals of the trapped laborers, potentially aiding in monitoring their condition.

The next phase involves removing the drill bit from the pipe, after which essential supplies, including food and medicines, will be sent to the trapped workers. Additionally, the authorities have brought in drones and robots from the Defence Research and Development Organisation to explore alternative escape routes for the laborers ensnared in the tunnel collapse.
