Three arrested in ‘Aadu Thoma’ style robbery case

Police have apprehended a three-member gang, including a minor, believed to be responsible for a robbery at a petrol pump in Mangad, Omassery. The individuals, reportedly from Malappuram, were arrested by Mukkam police, who are currently investigating the case. The robbery occurred around 2 am on Friday at a Hindustan Petroleum pump, where the trio stole money from an employee by using chili powder to impair his vision and covering his face with a mundu (dhoti). The distraction technique involved one member engaging the employee in conversation while the others seized the opportunity to overpower him. Reports indicate a loss of Rs 10,000 in the incident, with the petrol dealers association representative Shameem confirming the amount lost from the employee’s pocket.

The petrol pump was relatively empty at the time, and the theft went unnoticed by another employee until his colleague brought it to his attention. The robbery gained attention on social media as CCTV footage circulated, depicting one of the culprits employing the ‘Aadu Thoma’ style, a reference to a character played by Mohanlal in the Malayalam movie ‘Spadikam.’
