Ongoing endeavors by both Indian and international experts to extricate 41 laborers trapped in the Silkiara tunnel, which collapsed after a Diwali landslide, are making progress. On Tuesday, rescue teams successfully resumed laying 800 mm pipes using the telescopic method within the already placed 900 mm hume pipes. Additionally, the halted work on the 900 mm pipe being drilled inside the tunnel by Auger machines, paused for three days, recommenced.
The updated action plan involves inserting 800 mm pipes into the 900 mm pipes, with engineers optimistic about achieving substantial progress within the next 24 hours. On the rescue operation’s tenth day, all stranded laborers seemed healthy and safe, as confirmed through communication facilitated by endoscopic flexi cameras brought from Delhi and inserted into the tunnel.
The insertion of a new six-inch lifeline pipe to supply food inside the tunnel marked a significant achievement on Tuesday. This lifeline, a successful collaboration between rescue agencies and the district administration, facilitated the delivery of additional fruits and food items to the laborers. The positive developments in the rescue efforts are fostering hope among all involved parties as they work tirelessly to evacuate the trapped workers from the aftermath of the tunnel collapse.
