Attacks on Indian Consulate: NIA raids 12 places in Punjab Haryana

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at 14 locations in Punjab and Haryana as part of its investigation into the attacks on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco earlier in the year. The raids, spanning districts including Moga, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Mohali, Patiala in Punjab, and Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar in Haryana, aimed to uncover the entire conspiracy behind the attacks that occurred on March 19 and July 2. The offenses involved criminal trespass, vandalism, damage to public property, attempts to harm consulate officials, and arson with the intent to set the building on fire.

The NIA’s crackdown resulted in the confiscation of digital data containing information linked to the accused individuals, along with other damning documents. The agency, committed to identifying and prosecuting the attackers, seeks to send a robust message to those harboring anti-Indian sentiments. In August 2023, an NIA team had visited San Francisco as part of its investigative efforts.

Crowdsourcing information has been a crucial aspect of the NIA’s investigation, as it seeks to identify and gather information about entities and individuals in the United States involved in these violent incidents. The raids underscore the government’s determination to address and respond firmly to threats against Indian diplomatic missions abroad, ensuring the safety and security of its officials and properties.
