Devotees will joyously observe Guruvayur Ekadashi, a significant event at the Sree Krishna temple in Guruvayur, coinciding with the Malayalam month of Vrischikam on Thursday. The temple, initiating with Nirmalya Darshanam, will extend its opening hours until the conclusion of Dwadasi Samarppanam on the subsequent day of Ekadashi. Guruvayur Ekadashi holds special importance as it commemorates the day when Lord Krishna imparted the teachings of the Geetha to Arjunan, as narrated in the epic Mahabharatha. V K Vijayan, the chairman of Guruvayur devaswom, affirmed that meticulous arrangements have been made to handle the influx of devotees and oversee the Ekadashi celebrations in adherence to rituals.
Elaborating on the preparations, Vijayan mentioned that the customary ‘Prasadaoottu’ would take place with additional seating arrangements for devotees. On Ekadashi day, Prasadaottu is scheduled to begin at 9 am and continue until 2 pm. Post this, a buffet-style arrangement will be in place for devotees to partake in the temple-offered meals. Given the ongoing Sabarimala pilgrimage season, the temple anticipates a higher number of devotees, and the buffet-style provision aims to accommodate pilgrims even beyond the regular hours.
Dwadashi Samarpanam, a key ritual signifying the culmination of Ekadashi celebrations, involves the offering of coins. Following the Sheeveli adorned with a swarna kolam on Ekadashi day, Dwadasi Samarppanam will persist until the sanctum sanctorum closes in the morning. Remarkably, Guruvayur remains open throughout the night only on Ekadashi day.
Preceding this, a remembrance ceremony for Guruvayur Kesavan will take place on Wednesday. A procession featuring fifteen elephants from Punnathoorkotta will conclude by paying homage at the Kesavan statue near the Sreevalsam guest house.
