Thrissur School Shooting: Suspect Purchased Rs 1,800 Air Gun, Demanded Hat Return from Teachers

The individual who instigated fear at a Thrissur school with an air gun had reportedly acquired the weapon for Rs 1,800 at Trichur Gun Bazar on September 28. Identified as Jagan from Mulayam, he informed the police that he used money given by his father for the purchase.

Vivekodayam Boys Higher Secondary School staff, situated in Naikkanal, recounted that Jagan, an alumnus, entered the school around 10:15 am on Tuesday, brandishing the air gun. He proceeded to the staff room, where he threatened teachers before entering classrooms and discharging the weapon.

Eyewitnesses noted Jagan firing into the air thrice before entering classrooms. Despite attempts by school authorities to intervene, he attempted to escape but was subdued with the help of residents present outside. The police, arriving promptly, arrested Jagan, describing him as a drug addict.

According to school officials, Jagan graduated two years prior, returning to the institution demanding the return of his hat confiscated two years ago. He also threatened to set the school ablaze. Jagan, slated to take his SSLC examinations in March, had joined Vivekodayam after being expelled from his previous school for assaulting teachers.
