Renowned actor Indrans, a recipient of national and state film awards, has joined the Kerala state literacy mission’s Class X equivalency programme. At 67, he not only enrolled but is also set to become the program’s brand ambassador. Indrans, initially uncertain about his educational background, believed he had only completed Class 4. However, the literacy mission discovered that he had passed Class 7 and even entered Class 8 before discontinuing his studies. Despite his successful acting career, Indrans expressed regret for not completing his education, realizing its significance later in life. An avid reader of Malayalam literature, he emphasized the impact of education on confidence and personal development. Indrans’ decision to resume studies serves as an inspiration, and his pursuit aligns with the mission’s efforts to encourage adult education. Some of his friends from the same era have also joined the program, highlighting a shared sentiment about the missed opportunity for education. Ward councillor Dr. Anil, who was Indrans’ junior at Kumarapuram LP school, mentioned Indrans’ initial doubts about studying Hindi and English, but the literacy mission assured support in overcoming such concerns.
