Gold Worth Rs 18.79 Lakh Discovered Hidden in Toys, Confiscated by Customs at Kochi Airport

On Wednesday, the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at Cochin International Airport intercepted an attempt to smuggle gold, seizing a stash worth Rs 18.79 lakhs from a passenger identified as Moideen. The discovery unfolded as customs officials inspected Moideen’s checked-in baggage, where seemingly innocent items such as a toy car, toy piano, power adaptor, car mount, and extension chord raised suspicion.

The vigilant customs officials, upon closer examination, unraveled a sophisticated concealment of 352.40 grams of gold ingeniously hidden within the toys. Highlighting the intricacy of the smuggling attempt, officials noted that the gold was coiled and concealed with high engineering skills. The thwarted bid to sneak gold through the airport showcases the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in curbing such illicit activities.

Customs officials emphasized the significance of their intervention, stating, “The customs officials foiled the bid to smuggle gold through the airport after finding something suspicious in the baggage of Moideen.” As investigations into the case progress, this incident underscores the constant need for vigilance and thorough examination to counteract evolving methods employed by those involved in illegal activities.
