Warner on Kaif: Performance Matters When It Counts

In response to Mohammad Kaif’s post-ICC ODI World Cup final comment, Australian opener David Warner emphasized the significance of delivering under pressure in finals, stating, “you need to perform when it matters.”

The banter ensued after Australia’s six-wicket victory over India in the 2023 World Cup final, securing their sixth title. Kaif, in the commentary box, asserted India’s superiority on paper, prompting a social media storm.

Warner cryptically replied, expressing his regard for Kaif but emphasizing the irrelevance of on-paper prowess. “At the end of the day, you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come,” Warner wrote on X.

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir sided unequivocally, stating that the team winning the final is undeniably the best. He dismissed notions that the best team didn’t win, calling such statements bizarre. “That’s absolutely not true. That’s one of the most bizarre statements that I have heard,” Gambhir said earlier in the week.
