Youth Congress Election Scandal: Tamil Actor Ajith’s Fake ID Found; Additional Leaders Investigated

The investigation into the alleged malpractice within the Youth Congress election has brought to light a grave offense involving the production of fake voter IDs in the state. Police claim that fraudsters even created fake ID cards of Tamil actor Ajith.

The actor’s fake ID card was discovered on the phone of Youth Congress activist Abhi Vikram, who was arrested on Wednesday. Three others – Feny, Binil Binu, and Vikas Krishna – were also arrested in Pathanamthitta after a raid at their residences, during which a total of 24 fake ID cards were seized.

According to the police, Vikas Krishna from Adoor confessed that he had crafted these fake ID cards, charging Rs 1000 for each. He revealed that the other three accused had provided photos and addresses for the fraudulent cards, and it took him 20 days to produce them.

The probe team emphasized that evidence against the accused would be presented in court on Thursday morning. A comprehensive investigation is set to determine the involvement of Youth Congress leaders in this malpractice. Reports suggest that Youth Congress president Rahul Mamkoottathil may be summoned for interrogation on Saturday.

In a media address on Wednesday, Rahul welcomed the investigation, asserting that no Youth Congress activist would evade charges. He declared that the Youth Congress would disown any accused found guilty.

The case emerged two days after the Youth Congress declared Rahul Mankoottathil as the winner of the organizational polls. The Chief Electoral Officer of the state directed the registration of a case following complaints of fake voter ID card usage during the Youth Congress organizational polls. An eight-member special investigation team was formed to probe the matter, resulting in the registration of an FIR under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier, allegations had surfaced regarding the use of a mobile app for creating fake IDs, prompting an investigation into its developers. Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay M Kaul forwarded complaints to the state police chief on November 17, urging action against the culprits.

BJP state president K Surendran accused a Congress faction in Kerala of creating fake voter ID cards, highlighting potential misuse in general elections and for acquiring SIM cards. CPM state secretary M V Govindan called for an urgent and comprehensive investigation, expressing concern over the threat to democracy posed by the use of fake voter ID cards.
