The Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Finland, Ville Tavio, emphasized the potential for collaboration between India and Finland, citing their complementary skills. Tavio highlighted the opportunity to address global challenges and achieve positive outcomes in digitization, education, sustainability, and innovation (DESI). During his extended visit to India, the longest he has undertaken outside Finland, Tavio led a delegation primarily comprising technology and green solution companies. Notable Finnish companies in India, such as Kone and Nokia, were mentioned, emphasizing existing ties, and he expressed optimism about the mutually beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
In addition to technology collaboration, Finland aims to support sustainability projects in India, focusing on converting waste into energy and seeking partnerships with startups. Tavio underscored the importance of networking, having engaged with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal during the Nordic Baltic convention. Meanwhile, Minister Goyal expressed the feasibility of the proposed FTAs with the EU and the EFTA group (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland) but emphasized the need to safeguard India’s interests in the negotiation process. The discourse reflects the shared enthusiasm for collaboration and the potential for positive economic ties between the two nations.
