IED Blast at Iron Ore Mine in Naxal-hit Narayanpur c kills two

Two workers lost their lives, and another sustained injuries in an explosion triggered by a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites at an iron ore mine site in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 am as the three workers were en route to the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine on a hill under the jurisdiction of the Chhote Dongar police station, located about 350 km away from the state capital, Raipur. The mine is allocated to Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL), and Naxalites have been opposing the project for an extended period.

Preliminary findings suggest that the workers came into contact with the pressure IED connection, triggering the fatal blast. The deceased were identified as Ritesh Gagda (21) and Shravan Gagda (24), both residents of Narayanpur district. Shravan, initially reported missing after the explosion, was later found at the blast site. The injured worker, Umesh Rana, received medical attention at a local hospital. Currently, security personnel are conducting a search operation in the area. The tragic incident underscores the ongoing security challenges and opposition faced by certain industrial projects in Naxal-affected regions, posing risks to the lives of workers and creating complexities for project implementation.
