Marking India’s rocketry birth, ISRO to launch rocket from Thumba tomorrow

On November 25, India is set to launch a modest 3.5-meter rocket, deviating from missions like the lunar Chandrayaan-3 or solar Aditya L-1. The RH200-sounding rocket, part of the Rohini series, will commemorate the 60th anniversary of India’s inaugural rocket launch. Taking place at 10:25 AM from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS), this event marks the birth of India’s space program, initiated with the launch of the Nike-Apache sounding rocket from Thumba, Kerala, on November 21, 1963.

ISRO announced that the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre will host celebrations, with Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh inaugurating the event. Following the commemorative launch, there will be a themed exhibition and technical talks by distinguished scientists. The occasion will also honor pioneers from ISRO’s inception era, with students from selected schools invited to witness the launch and interact with ISRO Chairman S. Somanath. Directors from various ISRO centers, including VSSC Director Dr. S Unnikrishnan Nair and LPSC Director Dr. V Narayanan, will attend the function.
