Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a gathering in Mathura during the Braj Ruj festival, stopped short of formally announcing the proposed Banke Bihari temple corridor in Vrindavan. However, he reassured the people of Braj that he is committed to preserving the sanctity of the region and enhancing the divine experience of ‘darshan’ of Lord Krishna. The PM emphasized the importance of ‘bhavya darshan’ (magnificent viewing) and drew parallels with similar corridors built in Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakal, and Kedarnath, along with mentioning the upcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Although the PM was expected to make an announcement about the Banke Bihari corridor, he expressed confidence that the day is not far when the ‘darshan’ of Krishna will be even more magnificent. During his address, Modi indirectly criticized the Congress party, accusing them of attempting to detach India from its rich heritage and cultural identity. He praised the Braj Teerath Development Board for their work in Mathura, facilitating safe and proper ‘darshan’ of the deity and ensuring basic amenities. Modi also invoked the legacy of Meera Bai, lauding her family’s sacrifices for the protection of religious centers.
In addition to his remarks, Prime Minister Modi released a stamp and a 35-gram coin in Meera Bai’s name on the occasion, highlighting the importance of independence in freeing the country from the “mentality of slavery.” He described Lord Krishna as an embodiment of love and compassion, coupled with aggression when justice was needed. Modi concluded by emphasizing the role of individuals standing up as beacons during times when the nation’s consciousness was under attack, with some becoming seers and others warriors.
