India’s flourishing seafood industry has marked a significant achievement, with seafood exports reaching $8.09 billion in the 2022-23 fiscal year, catering to 129 countries. The demand for value-added seafood products has contributed to this success, constituting 10% of India’s total seafood exports. Recognizing the need to address the intensifying competition in the global seafood export sector, the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) has launched initiatives focused on enhancing infrastructure and building capacities for value addition.
To further augment the skills of workers and elevate the overall standards of the industry, MPEDA has initiated a comprehensive training program scheduled from November 21 to December 17. The inaugural phase of this hands-on training program commenced on World Fisheries Day, November 21, in Kochi. Vietnamese experts, Tran Quoc Son and Chu Thi Tuyet Mai, are leading the training sessions. A total of 22 seafood export units are actively participating in this program, reflecting MPEDA’s commitment to continuous improvement and competitiveness in the global seafood market.
