Six accused in student death case, prohibited from entering Jadavpur University in Kolkata

Six students are allegedly involved in the death of a first-year student in August of this year, and Jadavpur University in Kolkata has issued a notice prohibiting them from being on campus. Until they receive a formal acquittal, they will not be permitted to visit the campus or hostel.

On the evening of August 9, the 17-year-old student fell off his hostel’s balcony and died.

The student in question was severely raped prior to his death, according to a committee that Jadavpur University established to look into his death on campus.

Deepshekhar Dutta, Monotosh Ghosh, Asif Afzal Ansari, Satyabrata Sarkar, Ankan Sarkar, and Arif are the six accused students. They are presently incarcerated and won’t be allowed to return to the campus or housing amenities until they have received a formal acquittal.

Interestingly, since Saurabh Chowdhury is no longer a student at the college, he was left out of the notification despite being another person connected to the case.

The notification has been distributed to the pertinent departments by the university’s registrar’s office.

An ‘anti-ragging squad’ led by the new interim vice-chancellor, Buddhadev Sahu, was formed to deal with and stop similar instances in the future after the Jadavpur University internal inquiry committee found the student had been the victim of ragging.
