On Saturday morning, the electoral landscape in Rajasthan came alive as polling commenced for the crucial 199 assembly seats. The battleground set, the BJP aggressively seeks to overturn the reins from the Congress, which, in turn, aims to defy the state’s historical anti-incumbency trend.
“Polling began at 7 am today. A total of 51,507 polling booths have been set up across the state,” informed Rajasthan’s chief electoral officer, Praveen Gupta, emphasizing the expansive scale of the electoral process.
Among the early voters was Union Minister of State Kailash Chaudhary, who cast his vote in Balotra, marking the initiation of this democratic exercise. While Rajasthan boasts a total of 200 assembly seats, polling is underway on 199 seats, as the election in the Karanpur seat of Sriganganagar district was deferred due to the unfortunate demise of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar.
The electorate, comprising 5,25,38,105 voters across the 199 assembly constituencies, holds the key to determining the political landscape of the state. A diverse array of 1,862 candidates, including Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot (Sardarpura), former chief minister Vasundhara Raje (Jhalrapatan), former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot (Tonk), state PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra (Lachhmangarh), and RLP convenor Hanuman Beniwal (Khinvsar), underscores the significance of this electoral battle. The outcome will undoubtedly shape the future trajectory of Rajasthan’s political landscape.
