Following the tragic stampede at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), resulting in the loss of four lives and numerous injuries, the state government has taken immediate action. In response to the incident, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan convened an emergency meeting in Kozhikode, expressing condolences for the students’ untimely demise.
Minister P Rajeeve and higher education minister R Bindu are heading to Kochi to assess the situation, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing the aftermath of the stampede. Health Minister Veena George, stationed in Kozhikode, is coordinating healthcare efforts, ensuring comprehensive treatment for the injured.
Pinarayi Vijayan, in a statement, instructed authorities to prioritize medical care for all those affected while vowing a thorough examination of the circumstances leading to the tragic incident. The Chief Minister’s commitment to a detailed inquiry underscores the gravity of the situation.
The stampede unfolded during a live musical concert featuring renowned singer Nikhita Gandhi, where sudden rainfall prompted students to seek shelter. This abrupt turn of events led to chaos and panic among the audience, resulting in the stampede that claimed the lives of two boys and two girls, with over 60 others sustaining injuries.
Currently, the injured students are receiving treatment at various hospitals, including the Ernakulam Government Medical College Hospital. Health Minister Veena George has reported that the condition of five students remains critical. As the state mourns the loss, investigations and efforts to support the affected continue.
