The mother of Harinarayanan (16), undergoing a heart transplant, extends gratitude to organ donors, praising the Kerala government’s support. She reflects on the previous ordeal with her older child, crediting the state for both arrangements.
“I express my sincere gratitude to all those who helped us save both my sons, especially the families that decided to donate the hearts,” she shares. Her heartfelt thanks extend to the hospital, doctors, Kerala government, police, and media for ensuring a smooth organ transfer.
Harinarayanan receives a heart from Selvin Shekhar (36), a generous donor from Kanyakumari. The surgery unfolds at Lissie Hospital in Kochi, with the organ transported swiftly from Thiruvananthapuram by helicopter. Traffic regulations facilitate an unhindered journey from Bolgatty helipad to the hospital.
Selvin Shekhar, a Tamil Nadu hospital staff nurse, donates his heart, kidneys, pancreas, and eyes. His selfless act impacts recipients at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and Aster Medcity in Kochi. His eyes will benefit two patients at Thiruvananthapuram Eye Hospital.
Organ donation, coordinated by the state’s K-SOTO (Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation), operates through postmortem donation. Health Minister Veena George expresses gratitude to Selvin’s wife Geetha, also a nurse, for her willingness to donate organs.
