In Sadashivanagar, a family of five was discovered dead in what appears to be a suicide pact, with financial troubles and alleged harassment by money lenders cited as the likely motives. The deceased couple, Gharib Sab (46) and Sumaiya (33), are suspected of strangling their children, Hazira (14), Mohammed Subhan (11), and Mohammed Muneer (9). A murder and abetment to suicide case has been filed against seven individuals, including the couple and others allegedly involved in the harassment.
The accused include Khalandar, his daughter Sania, his son Shahbaz, and neighbors Shabana and her daughter Sania. Police investigations indicate that the family faced harassment from these individuals. Gharib Sab, before taking his own life, recorded a video in which he appealed to State Home Minister G Parameshwara and police officials to hold accountable those who compelled the family to resort to such extreme measures.
In the video, Sab revealed his impoverished background, originating from Lakkenahalli village in Shira Taluk of Tumakuru. He earned a living by selling ‘Kabab’ but struggled with financial hardship, having borrowed money from multiple individuals, including Khalandar, who allegedly subjected him and his family to harassment.
State Home Minister Parameshwara expressed condolences over the tragic deaths and pledged a thorough investigation into the matter. The incident sheds light on the pervasive issue of financial distress and alleged harassment faced by vulnerable individuals, prompting authorities to address the root causes of such incidents.
