Stones thrown at Vande Bharat, no injuries reported

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) announced on Monday that the Rourkela-Puri Vande Bharat Express encountered stone-pelting between Meramandali and Budhapank stations in the Dhenkanal-Angul railway section on Sunday night. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident. The statement from ECoR highlighted that “Train number 20835 Vande Bharat Express has been targeted by some stone-pelters,” resulting in damage to a windowpane of an executive class coach. Despite the incident, the train reached Puri with a delay of 13 minutes.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) reported the incident, prompting the security wing of ECoR to take it seriously. Both RPF and the Government Railway Police (GRP) were alerted, and local police have been informed, ensuring strict action against the stone-pelters.

Efforts are underway to trace the culprits, with the ECoR security wing collaborating with local police for the task. The railway official emphasized that the ECoR consistently conducts awareness campaigns, particularly targeting those residing near railway tracks, urging them not to throw stones at trains. This unfortunate incident aligns with previous reports of Vande Bharat Express trains being targeted with stones in various parts of the country.
