Kerala govt extends welfare pension payments for two additional months in Dec

The Kerala government is actively working to disburse welfare pension arrears for an additional two months, aiming to complete the process during the ongoing Nava Kerala Sadas program led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet. Reports indicate a surge in complaints related to the non-receipt of welfare pensions under Nava Kerala Sadas. In response, the finance department is considering the distribution of pensions for two more months, totaling Rs 3,200.

While July’s pension dues were recently cleared by the government, there are concerns that some pensioners who completed the muster roll have yet to receive their pensions. Finance department sources state that addressing this issue is contingent on receiving complaints from affected individuals.

To disburse pension arrears for August and September, the government requires Rs 1,500 crore. Once settled, pensions for October and November will be addressed. Additionally, in a move to counter Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s claim regarding the prompt allocation of central government funds for pensions, the Kerala government plans to publish details of the funds received. Government sources highlight that while the state provides a monthly pension of Rs 1,600, the central government’s share varies from Rs 200 to Rs 500 for five types of pensions, benefiting a smaller fraction of individuals compared to the state’s broader welfare pension program.
