Kerala woman sentenced to 20 years in prison for abetting rape of minor daughter

A 43-year-old woman has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a fast-track special court for her role in aiding her lover, Sisupalan, in the rape of her seven-year-old daughter. The Ayiroor-native initially turned a blind eye and later facilitated the sexual assault on her younger daughter by Sisupalan, who passed away during the trial. The woman’s criminal acts took place between March 2018 and September 2019. During this period, she abandoned her mentally-challenged husband and began cohabiting with Sisupalan and her daughter. The young girl endured sexual abuse during this time, resulting in injuries to her private parts.

Despite the victim confiding in her mother about the traumatic experience, the woman instructed her not to disclose the incident and allowed Sisupalan to continue exploiting the child. The heinous acts came to light when the girl’s elder sister, also a victim of Sisupalan’s abuse, learned about the ongoing abuse. She reported the matter to her grandmother. Despite the intervention of the grandmother, the woman persisted in her harmful behavior, eventually leaving Sisupalan for another man who also sexually abused the child. The case related to the latter abuse is currently under trial. Following these traumatic events, both girls were relocated to a Children’s Home, where they disclosed their harrowing experiences during counseling sessions.
