Starting in January, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to implement digital payment options for bus tickets, offering passengers the convenience of using travel, credit, and debit cards, Google Pay, and QR codes. This initiative addresses challenges like providing exact change and ensuring sufficient change availability. Passengers will receive digital tickets on their mobile devices through this system. The KSRTC has partnered with “Chalo App,” a private company, to execute the project, leveraging its bus tracking feature for real-time location updates. Android ticket machines, equipped with these features, will be deployed on buses.
For each ticket issued through the Chalo App, the KSRTC will pay 13 paise. The app’s data analysis capabilities aid in identifying crowded buses, while also providing precise information on season ticket sales and free passes. A trial run is scheduled for completion by December’s end. Notably, various road transport corporations, including Mumbai’s, have already integrated ticketing services through the Chalo App.
