Sabarimala pilgrim dies in road accident at Kuttikanam

A pilgrim returning from Sabarimala, hailing from Chennai, met with a fatal accident as the car he was in collided with a traveller in Kuttikanam, within the limits of the Peerumedu police station, on Tuesday morning. The tragic incident transpired near IHRD College in Kuttikanam around 9 a.m. The deceased, identified as Venkitesh (68) from Kurichi Nagar in West Tambaram, Chennai, had sustained head injuries and succumbed at the Peerumedu Taluk Hospital. The pilgrims, including Venkitesh, were on their way back after offering prayers at Sabarimala, traveling on the Kollam-Dindigul national highway. The traveller involved was en route from Kumily to Allapuzha. Two other pilgrims from the car, injured in the accident, have been relocated from Peerumedu Taluk Hospital to Kottayam MCH. Preliminary investigations suggest that the car driver possibly dozed off, resulting in the vehicle veering off course and colliding with the traveller. The authorities at Peerumedu police station indicated that Venkitesh’s postmortem would take place at Peerumedu Taluk Hospital before the body is released to the family.
