Delhi-based social worker Kiran Verma is embarking on a 21,000 km journey by foot to raise awareness about blood donation. Starting his expedition from Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram on December 28, 2021, Verma has covered an impressive 17,700 km, reaching Nagaland in the northeastern region. His mission, as stated in a Monday release, aims to underscore the significance of blood donation to prevent unnecessary fatalities due to blood shortages.
Verma reported the successful organization of 126 blood donation camps nationwide, resulting in the collection of 26,722 units of blood. In addition, over 9,000 individuals have contributed to blood banks in various locations, both within the country and abroad, in support of his campaign. During his stop in Kohima, Verma met with Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along, known for his humor on social media, who extended best wishes and encouraged people to donate blood to save lives.
Having covered 229 districts across 17 states and Union territories to reach Kohima, Verma expressed his goal of inspiring at least 50 lakh (5 million) new blood donors to ensure sustained availability in blood banks and hospitals. His upcoming itinerary includes visits to Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and other parts of the Northeast. Verma, the founder of ‘Change With One Foundation,’ oversees programs like ‘Simply Blood,’ launched on January 29, 2017, which claims to be the world’s first virtual blood donation platform connecting donors and seekers in real-time without charge. Additionally, ‘Change With One Meal’ provides unlimited meals at Rs 10 to anyone in need.
