Indian student accused of killing grandparents and uncle in US

Om Brahmbhatt, a 23-year-old Indian student, has been arrested and charged with allegedly murdering his grandparents and uncle inside a condominium in South Plainfield, New Jersey. The victims were identified as Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt (72), Bindu Brahmbhatt (72), and Yashkumar Brahmbhatt (38). The South Plainfield Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that officers responded to the Traditions condo complex on Coppola Drive around 9 am on Monday after gunshots were reported by a neighbor. Upon arrival, they discovered Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt shot to death in the second-floor apartment, while Yashkumar Brahmbhatt had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died in the hospital.

Om Brahmbhatt, who had recently moved to New Jersey, was found at the scene and taken into custody. He was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and second-degree weapon possession. The crime was reportedly committed with a handgun Om claimed to have purchased online. During a court appearance, Om seemed calm and reportedly stated, “It might be me” when asked about the incident. Authorities noted that this was not a random act of violence, and an investigation led by the South Plainfield Police Department is ongoing. Neighbors mentioned that police had been called to the condominium previously for a domestic violence incident. The Traditions apartment complex is equipped with security cameras, and an investigation is ongoing.
