Fujairah: His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, ordered the release of 113 prisoners of different nationalities. The royal pardon was issued ahead of the UAE National Day. The prisoners’ eligibility for the pardon was based on their good character and behaviour.
Maj-Gen Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanim Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of the Fujairah Police, extended its gratitude to the Fujairah Ruler for the humanitarian gesture.

Earlier in the day, Rulers in three other emirates announced similar pardons. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has ordered the release of 1,018 prisoners from correctional and penal facilities in the country. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai ordered release of 1249 prisoners in correctional and penal institutions in Dubai. Also, His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has ordered the release of 143 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Ajman.
Every year, during special occasions, rulers of GCC countries pardon a number of inmates in a compassionate gesture that seeks to keep families together and raise quality of life.
The National Day is celebrated in the UAE on December 2 and it marks the unification of the emirates into a federation. Also called the UAE Union Day, the UAE marks the National Day on December 2 every year to celebrate the unification of the Emirates in 1971. The country turns 52 this year.
