Chennai airport reopens following rain, airlines notify airport authorities

Chennai airport’s airfield area has been operational since 9 am on Tuesday, and officials have communicated with airlines and stakeholders to coordinate their operations. With the cessation of rain and the recession of water, there is no stagnation on runways or taxiways, though efforts are ongoing to clear slush and debris. Officials prioritize departures to assist stranded passengers, as there are currently 21 aircraft grounded with around 1500 passengers inside the Terminals at Chennai Airport. Adequate food supplies are available in the airport outlets to cater to the needs of those present.

Following the disruption caused by Cyclone Michaung on Monday, resulting in the suspension of air services to and from Chennai’s airport, the recent improvements in weather conditions and operational readiness mark a positive development for air travel in the region.
