The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a red alert for specific areas in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam districts of Telangana, signaling the imminent threat of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday due to the impact of Cyclone Michaung. The IMD’s latest reports indicate that Cyclone Michaung, categorized as a severe cyclonic storm, is expected to strengthen and make landfall along the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam on Tuesday forenoon. The cyclone is predicted to boast a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 110 kmph.
In response to the cyclonic threat, the IMD has also issued orange and yellow alerts for various other regions in the state. Anticipating heavy rains, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanamkonda are under heightened vigilance, while yellow alerts have been issued for isolated places in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Nalgonda, Jangaon, and Siddipet.
Further forecasts from the IMD predict thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph in isolated areas of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal, Malkajgiri, and Nagarkurnool, prompting a yellow alert in these localities. Over the next 48 hours, Hyderabad and its neighboring areas are expected to experience light to moderate rain and mist/hazy conditions. Additionally, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Mancherial, Peddapalli, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Jayashankar Bhupalpally on Wednesday, with the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in these regions.
