Dinesh K Tripathi joined Indian Navy as Vice Chief of Naval Staff

Vice Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi was named by the Indian government as the new Vice Chief of Naval Staff on Tuesday. Vice Admiral Tripathi, who is currently in charge of the Indian Navy’s Western Command, which has its headquarters in Mumbai, will take up his new duties on January 4, 2024. The new Western Naval Commander will be Vice Admiral SJ Singh, the Vice Chief of Navy currently serving.

Vice Admiral Tripathi held a number of distinguished positions, including Chief of Personnel at the Ministry of Defense’s Integrated Headquarters (Navy).

He joined the Indian Navy in July 1985 after graduating from the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla and Sainik School Rewa. Tripathi, who specializes in communication and electronic warfare, has held important positions on front-line warships, including electronic warfare officer and signal communication officer.

He has also held the positions of Principal Warfare Officer and Executive Officer aboard the guided missile destroyer INS Mumbai. Among the notable commanders are Indian naval vessels Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul.

In addition, Tripathi has held a number of significant operational and personnel positions, including Principal Director of Naval Plans in New Delhi, Director of Naval Operations, Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet in Mumbai, and Principal Director of Naval Operations.

He was the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) at IHQ MoD(N) after being promoted to Rear Admiral, and he subsequently held the position of Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet.

After being elevated to the rank of vice admiral in June 2019, Vice Admiral Tripathi became the Indian Naval Academy’s commandant in Ezhimala, Kerala. He led the Navy during a period of increased marine operations from July 2020 to May 2021 as the Director General of Naval Operations, despite the difficulties presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vice Admiral Tripathi, who graduated from Wellington’s Defence Services Staff College, was awarded the Thimmaiya Medal. In addition, he received the esteemed Robert E. Bateman International Prize for finishing both the Naval Higher Command Course and the Naval Command College at the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Islands, in 2007–08.

Vice Admiral Tripathi is wed to artist and housewife Mrs. Shashi Tripathi; the two have a son who is an active lawyer.
