Dinesh Phadnis, renowned for his portrayal of Fredericks in the widely popular Indian TV series CID, passed away at the age of 57 on Tuesday, succumbing to multiple organ failure. Dayanand Shetty, his co-actor from CID, confirmed the sad news to a daily, stating that Dinesh breathed his last at 12:08 am. The actor had been previously admitted to Mumbai’s Tunga Hospital and had been on ventilator support for the past few days.
According to Shetty, Dinesh’s demise was attributed to multiple organ failure, with various complications leading to his removal from the ventilator the previous night. The funeral rites reportedly took place in Mumbai at 10:30 am on Tuesday.
Earlier reports had suggested that Dinesh was rushed to the hospital on Sunday following a cardiac arrest. However, Shetty clarified that it was not a cardiac arrest; instead, his co-star had been hospitalized due to liver damage.
Dinesh gained widespread recognition for his role as Fredericks in CID, a long-running TV series that first aired in 1998 and continued for two decades on Sony TV. The actor also made appearances on the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and featured in films such as Super 30 and Sarfarosh.
