Bhima Koregaon Case: Incarcerated activist Shoma Sen appeals for immediate medical bail

On Wednesday, Shoma Sen, one of the accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, appealed to the Supreme Court for immediate interim bail, citing her deteriorating health. Anand Grover, a senior Supreme Court lawyer representing Sen, requested bail, emphasizing that “her health is deteriorating day by day.” As a women’s rights activist and former head of the English Literature department at Nagpur University, Sen has been an undertrial prisoner since June 6, 2018. She is currently held at the Byculla jail in Mumbai. Sen, alongside other activists and academics, faces charges in the 2018 Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case related to Maoist links and criminal conspiracy. The activist is specifically charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The two-judge bench, comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and Augustine George Masih, presided over the hearing and expressed interest in learning more about the case. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on Thursday.
