Indian Army set to deploy 10,000 portable Thermal Imaging devices

The Indian Army is currently in the process of incorporating roughly 10,000 Hand Held Thermal Imager-Uncooled (HHTI-UC), as indicated by the Request for Information (RFI) posted on the Army Website. According to the RFI, the HHTI-UC should employ cutting-edge technology parameters, allowing soldiers to conduct surveillance up to a range of 3000 meters.

The surveillance device is expected to support day and night surveillance through a combination of High-Resolution Optical Viewer, Digital (low light), and Thermal (uncooled) sensors. Additionally, it should enable distance assessment of the surveillance area using LRFs, acquisition of magnetic bearing via DMC, and provide location information to users through built-in Satellite Navigation Systems, including NAVIC. The specified surveillance device is required to weigh less than 3.0 kilograms, facilitate the recording and storage of a minimum of three hours of SD videos with removable storage devices, and allow seamless wired/wireless connectivity of at least 50 meters with standard interfaces.

Upon vendors responding to the RFI, the “Tentative date of issue of Request for Proposal (RFP) is Jun 2024, with the total quantity required being approximately 10,000,” according to the RFI. The procurement is planned to occur in phases, with the vendors expected to deliver the desired quantity within six (06) to twenty-four (24) months from the day of the Advance Payment. Vendors are required to confirm their capability to deliver the specified quantity of HHTI-UC within the designated timeframe and submit the necessary documents/details by 26 Dec 2023.
