The Lok Sabha is expected to receive the report from the Ethics Committee regarding the expulsion of Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Mahua Moitra on Friday, as per Parliamentary sources. During the ongoing winter session of Parliament, Opposition members have called for a discussion in the Lok Sabha before any decision is made on Moitra’s expulsion. Opposition MPs raised this demand at the Business Advisory Committee meeting, chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, to finalize the House agenda. Although the report was scheduled for presentation on Monday, the agenda item was not addressed.
BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali, a member of the ethics panel, expressed concern about the report’s reference to his conduct during the committee’s meetings regarding the ‘cash-for-query’ allegations against Moitra. Ali urged the Speaker to delete the paragraph before presenting it in the House, citing rules that prohibit mentioning individual members or their conduct in committee reports. The Ethics Committee, led by BJP member Vinod Sonkar, adopted its report on November 9, recommending Moitra’s expulsion. Opposition members criticized the report as a ‘fixed match,’ arguing that the complaint filed by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey lacked evidence. Moitra’s expulsion can only occur if the House votes in favor of the committee’s recommendation.
