Chandrasekhar predicts digital economy’s share in GDP to each 20%

Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced on Thursday that he anticipates the digital economy to contribute 20% to India’s GDP by 2026. Speaking at the inauguration of the Gujarat government’s ‘Startup Conclave 2023’ at the Gandhinagar helipad ground, Chandrasekhar highlighted the significant growth, stating that the digital economy’s share has surged from 4.5% in 2014 to 11% today.

Attributing the transformation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Digital India” initiative launched in 2015, Chandrasekhar emphasized how the program has qualitatively and quantitatively impacted India’s economy, innovation ecosystem, and global standing. He underscored India’s transition from a technology consumer to a producer of devices, products, and platforms for the global market over the past nine years.

Chandrasekhar asserted that India has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing digital economy, celebrating the diversification of the economy under Modi’s leadership. He praised the visionary approach of the Prime Minister, describing the current period as the most exciting time in India’s history in terms of innovation and technology. Reflecting on the progress made since 2014, Chandrasekhar emphasized the remarkable growth of India’s innovation ecosystem and digital economy under Modi’s leadership.
