New Delhi: One can his/her train ticket online using both the IRCTC website and the app. For this one must have a registered IRCTC account and login credentials.
You can cancel your e-ticket only before the chart preparation is done. Once the chart is prepared, you cannot cancel directly online. You need to file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) through the IRCTC website.
The cancellation charges and refund amount will depend on the time of cancellation and the type of ticket. The refund amount will be credited back to the original payment mode used for booking within 7-10 working days.
CANCELLING THROUGH THE IRCTC WEBSITE:
Log in to your IRCTC account: Go to the IRCTC website and enter your Username and Password.
Navigate to ‘Booked Ticket History’: Hover over the ‘My Account’ section and select ‘Booked Ticket History’ from the drop-down menu.
Locate your booking: Find the booking you wish to cancel and click on the ‘Cancel Ticket’ option.
Select passengers and confirm: A pop-up window will appear. Select the passengers whose tickets you want to cancel and check the box next to ‘I have read and understood the cancellation rules and procedure.’
Click ‘Cancel Ticket’ again to confirm.
Verify with OTP: You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP in the provided field and click ‘Submit.’
Cancellation confirmation: Once your request is processed, you will receive a confirmation message on your screen and an email notification.

CANCELLING THROUGH THE IRCTC APP:
Open the IRCTC app: Launch the IRCTC app on your smartphone and log in using your registered credentials.
Select ‘Booked Tickets’: Tap the ‘Booked Tickets’ option on the app’s homepage.
Find your booking: Locate the booking you want to cancel and choose ‘Cancel Ticket.’
Select passengers and confirm: Follow steps 4 and 5 as described in the website cancellation process.
Verify with OTP: Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and click ‘Submit.’
Confirmation message: You will receive confirmation messages through the app and email.
