Masroor Ahmad Wani, a police inspector critically wounded in a militant attack during a cricket game with local boys at Eidgah ground in downtown Srinagar in October, has passed away at AIIMS, New Delhi. The 34-year-old officer succumbed to his injuries on Thursday afternoon, as confirmed by a police official. Recently airlifted to AIIMS for specialized treatment from Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, Masroor had sustained three bullet injuries to the eye, abdomen, and neck when shot at point-blank range by a militant.
The attack occurred on October 29, and Masroor was promptly taken to SKIMS Soura, where he remained hospitalized for over a month, relying on life support. Survived by his father, brother, and wife, Masroor was anticipating the arrival of his first child with his wife. The tragic incident unfolded while he was engaged in a cricket match with local boys at Eidgah ground in downtown Srinagar, underscoring the risks faced by officers in the line of duty.
