President Murmu acknowledges resignations of Union Ministers

On Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignations of Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel, and Renuka Singh Saruta, who emerged victorious in the recent assembly polls. This decision followed the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as conveyed in a communiqué from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

In line with the Prime Minister’s recommendations, President Murmu assigned Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda the additional responsibility of the Agriculture Ministry. Furthermore, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar took on an extra role as Minister of State for Jal Shakti. Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje was given the additional charge of Minister of State in Food Processing Industries alongside her existing portfolio. Additionally, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar assumed the additional role of Minister of State in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The resignations of ministers Tomar, Patel, and Saruta came in alignment with the BJP’s decision for all 12 of its MPs recently elected to state assemblies to step down from Parliament. Speculation arose that they might join the new governments in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. Notably, Lok Sabha MP Saruta, who won the Bharatpur-Sonhat seat in the Chhattisgarh state assembly elections, was among those who resigned. The list of resigning MPs included individuals from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. All except Kirodi Lal Meena are Lok Sabha members, with Meena being a Rajya Sabha member.
