The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at 44 locations in Maharashtra and Karnataka, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals in connection with an ISIS terror module case. The raids were carried out in coordination with the police forces of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The locations included one in Karnataka, two in Pune, 31 in Thane Rural, nine in Thane city, and one in Bhayander.
The case involves a criminal conspiracy by the accused and their associates, who subscribed to the violent extremist ideologies of proscribed terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS. They formed a terrorist gang and recruited like-minded youth, conducting religious classes to promote violent jihad with the aim of establishing Islamic rule in India. Aakif Ateeque Nachan, a suspect involved in making explosives, was previously arrested in August, making him the sixth individual apprehended in connection with an ISIS terror module case.
