The esteemed Kannada actress Leelavathi, aged 85, renowned for her roles in over 600 movies across Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu cinema, has passed away at a private hospital in Nelamangala, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Suffering from age-related ailments, she was admitted to the hospital, where she breathed her last.
Leelavathi, born as Leela Kiran in Belthangadi, Dakshina Kannada district, had a prolific career with over 400 films in Kannada alone. Her notable contributions include performances in movies such as ‘Bhakta Kumbara,’ ‘Santha Thukaram,’ ‘Bhatka Prahlada,’ ‘Mangalya Yoga,’ and ‘Mana Mechchida Madadi.’ She shared the screen with Kannada matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar in several films.
In recent years, Leelavathi resided in Nelamangala with her actor son Vinod Raj. Her passing marks the end of an era in the Kannada film industry, leaving behind a rich legacy of memorable performances and contributions to Indian cinema.
