Mamata Banerjee to address Mahua Moitra’s expulsion during Delhi sit-in on December 17

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the TMC, is expected to address the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from Parliament during her protest in Delhi on December 17. While the scheduled agenda includes discussing West Bengal’s dues from the Central government, Moitra’s expulsion is likely to take top priority, with Banerjee expressing firm support for the expelled MP. Banerjee hinted that Moitra might contest as a TMC candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Describing Moitra’s expulsion as a political vendetta and a betrayal of constitutional rights, Banerjee emphasized that there would be no reason not to field Moitra in the upcoming general elections. The TMC plans to highlight the expulsion issue in the campaigns leading up to the 2024 LS polls across the state.

Protests against Moitra’s expulsion have already begun in the Krishnanagar constituency, and similar demonstrations are expected to spread to other parts of the state. The TMC leadership has called for demonstrations to protest the ouster of an elected MP from Parliament, indicating widespread discontent with the move.
