Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has unveiled a cyclone relief package, offering Rs 6,000 in cash assistance to individuals affected by the recent cyclone. The financial aid will be distributed in cash at the Public Distribution System outlets in their respective neighborhoods. The relief measures also include increased compensation for flood-hit crops, with the compensation for rain-hit crops (33% and above) such as paddy raised from Rs 13,500 per hectare to Rs 17,000. Compensation for perennial crops and trees will increase to Rs 22,500 per hectare from Rs 18,000. For rain-fed crops, the compensation will rise to Rs 8,500 from Rs 7,410 per hectare. The solatium for the kin of those who lost their lives in rain-related incidents due to the cyclone will be increased to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 4 lakh. The relief package also outlines assistance for damaged boats, fishing nets, cattle, goat breeds, damaged huts, and more. Additionally, the government noted the distribution of food packets, milk powder, drinking water bottles, and other essentials in affected areas. The Chief Minister held a high-level meeting to review the flood damage and the relief measures. The state government has sought an interim central relief of Rs 5,060 crore, and two instalments of Rs 450 crore each have been cleared by the Centre.
