The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, has arrived in Sikkim for a three-day visit, marking his return after a 13-year hiatus. During his stay in the Himalayan state, the Tibetan spiritual leader will provide teachings on the “Thirty-Seven Practices of Bodhisattvas.” His arrival at the Libing army helipad in East Sikkim was greeted with a warm reception, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and monks from various monasteries. The welcoming ceremony included traditional Buddhist rituals, such as the ‘Sherbang’ dance and prayer.
The 87-year-old Dalai Lama’s teachings on the “Thirty-Seven Practices of Bodhisattvas” are scheduled to take place at Paljor Stadium, approximately 50 km from the India-China border at Nathula. An estimated 40,000 devotees are expected to attend the event to receive blessings from the spiritual leader. The Dalai Lama’s visit also includes laying the virtual foundation stones for the Karmapa Park project at Rumtek and the Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo statue at Simmik Khamdong constituency in Gangtok district. Following his stay in Gangtok, the Dalai Lama will depart for Salugara in Siliguri, West Bengal. His previously planned visit to Sikkim in October was canceled due to a flash flood that resulted in casualties and displacement.
