FBI Director Christopher Wray held a meeting with CBI Director Praveen Sood in Delhi on Monday, focusing on enhancing cooperation in cyber-related financial crimes and other pertinent matters, according to officials. Wray, accompanied by senior officials, arrived at the agency headquarters at 2:07 pm for the scheduled meeting. His two-day visit to the national capital involves meetings with top officials from Indian security and law enforcement establishments.
The discussions between Sood and Wray likely encompassed various issues such as the exchange of information on cybercrime cases, narcotics, pending judicial requests, and the extradition of wanted criminals. The high-profile visit occurs amid Washington’s allegations of an Indian link to a foiled plot to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on U.S. soil. India has initiated a probe into these allegations.
Wray’s visit was mentioned by U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti last week, emphasizing the significant visits of senior U.S. officials to India. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi highlighted the ongoing bilateral cooperation between India and the U.S. in areas such as cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, and counter-narcotics. The visit by the FBI director is seen as a part of this broader collaboration and engagement in capacity-building programs.
