The renowned actor Andre Braugher, best known for his role as Captain Raymond Holt in the popular comedy TV series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has passed away at the age of 61 after a brief illness, as confirmed by his publicist.
Braugher’s notable rise to fame occurred through his role as Detective Frank Pembleton in the NBC drama Homicide: Life on the Street, for which he earned a lead actor Emmy. The series, running from 1992 to 1998, showcased his portrayal of a tenacious and arrogant detective.
However, it was his performance as Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine that endeared him to fans worldwide. The deadpan and no-nonsense character, paired with Andy Samberg’s Detective Jake Peralta, became iconic, earning Braugher four Emmy nominations for his role. He also received two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of the no-nonsense, black, and gay boss.
In addition to his success on television, Braugher won another Emmy for a miniseries or film for his performance in “Thief.”
