Mumbai: Indian equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened lower on Wednesday. The release of domestic and U.S. inflation data influenced investors. The NSE Nifty was down by 0.12% or 24.90 points to 20,881.90 while the BSE Sensex was down by 0.12% or 82.48 points to 69,468.55.
A total of 3,083 stocks were traded on the BSE, of which, 1,872 advanced, while 1,125 declined and 86 stocks remained unchanged. As many as 171 stocks hit a 52 week high and 7 stocks hit a 25 week low. Major gainers were NTPC, Ultratech, Eicher Motors, BPCL and Power Grid. Top losers include, Infosys, HDFC Life, TCS, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank.

BSE MidCap (0.33%) and BSE SmallCap (0.24%) indicated gains. Most of the sector indices were trading lower led by the Nifty IT index (down 1.73%), and the Nifty Financial Services index (0.5%).The Nifty Media and Pharma indidces gained 0.2% each.
